Windlass Wreck

Windlass Wreck: Planning to go to a scuba diving location in the USA? Then look no further…

In a scuba diving location east of Molasses Reef lighthouse in shallow waters is the remains of the Austrian sailing vessel Slobodana. This was a 170ft wooden hulled schooner which sank in 1987 after only 3 years after being launched.

Windlass WreckNot much is recognizable now except the 10 foot long iron winch and some gears which lie on the sandy bottom covered in red rope sponges.

To the west is the awesome scuba diving location, Molasses Reef, adorned with Elkhorn and Boulder Corals, whilst the depths are adorned with Star Coral and large Brain Coral. There is also a selection of soft corals, sea fans and some beautiful sponges.

The marine life is friendly and spectacular. From the moment you leave the boat you will be surrounded with fish and with plenty of mini caves, nooks, crannies and ledges; lobsters, crabs and other crustaceans also thrive in the area.

The fish are amazing with rays, angelfish, parrot fish, moray eels, grouper snapper, yellowtail, turtles, sharks, need I go on…
